Our rapidly changing world often leaves people feeling disempowered to plan for the future. As a result, they just keep doing what they’re currently doing and hope for the best. Here are 3 reasons why CONTEXT is important when planning for the future:
RELEVANCE - What you do now may not be relevant in the future. Your future relevance depends entirely on the future context in which you be operating.
INTERCONNECTEDNESS - The world is becoming increasingly interconnected, you can’t avoid change just because it seems to be happening somewhere else. You have to start thinking now about how that change will ripple through the rest of society and impact the future context of your industry.
IMAGINATION - Context gives you a framework for reimagining what is possible. If you want to rethink how you might serve your people in the future, start looking now at how the context might change and the new opportunities that will arise as a result.
As I like to say again and again: the future is uncertain. But, one thing we know for sure is that it will be impacted in some way by the changes we see emerging today. So, when you think about future context, you are thinking about the kind of future you could create in the midst of the challenges and opportunities these changes will bring.
